The 25th Conference on Infection Control in Alexandria

The activities of the twenty-fifth annual conference on infection control in Alexandria, organized by the Egyptian Society for Infection Control in cooperation with the Arab Institute for Sustainable Health Development “Mutamed,” were launched in the period from October 27 to 30 and sponsored by the Arab Doctors Union under the title “Education, Support, Application, Commitment.”

The conference is chaired by Dr. Osama Raslan, who is competing for the position of Secretary General of the Arab Doctors Union, and President of the Egyptian Fellowship for Infection Control.

A number of local and international bodies and organizations participate in the conference, most notably Dr. Bassem Zayed, representing the World Health Organization, and Dr. Shaheen Mahitar, representing the African Infection Control Network. Dr. Dilip Nathwani, representative of the European Antibiotic Association, representatives of the Egyptian Ministry of Health, and the Egyptian Patient Safety Association.

The conference is attended by more than 500 specialists in the field of infection control, including doctors, dentists, nurses and pharmacists from various parts of the Arab world and Africa.

The conference discusses a number of topics, including education, training and qualification in various aspects of infection control, imported and returning epidemics, microbial resistance to antibiotics, occupational health, disinfection and sterilization, infection control challenges, leadership and professional development in infection control.

The conference is considered one of the most important means of the Egyptian Society for Infection Control to achieve the Society’s mission, which stipulates creating a generation of distinguished infection control specialists and building a local and international professional and scientific communication network in order to reduce infection rates in Egyptian hospitals to the lowest possible level, raise awareness, and adopt a culture of safety and prevention.
