On its second day.. The 31st Conference discusses “Estimating the Risks of Infection in Health Facilities”

Today, the 31st Annual Conference of the Egyptian Society for Infection Control held a workshop on “Estimating the Risks of Infection in Health Facilities,” as part of the scientific activities of the second day of the conference, which is held in Port Said Governorate, over two days, under the patronage and chairmanship of Professor Dr. Osama Raslan, Secretary-General. The activities of the second day of the annual conference of the Egyptian Society for Infection Control witnessed the holding of a workshop on estimating the risks of infection in health facilities, and the feasibility of building infection prevention and control programs based on estimating the risks of infection in each hospital or health facility.


The workshop dealt with taking into account the assessment of infection risks, in setting performance measurement indicators, and in arranging priorities through which performance improvement projects are implemented, in order to provide safe health care that ensures the safety of the patient and the safety of service providers.


He lectured at the workshop; Dr. Maha Fathi, Secretary General of the Egyptian Society for Infection Control, Scientific Rapporteur for the Professional Diploma in Infection Control, Dr. Dina Mohamed Irfan, Professor of Medical Microbiology and Immunology and Infection Control Consultant, Dr. Walaa Abdel Latif, Professor of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, Ain Shams University, and Infection Control Consultant, and Dr. Nadia El-Sheshtawy, infection control consultant.


In addition, Dr. Maha Fathi announced that this year’s conference includes, on the sidelines of its activities, the official launch of the “Arab League for Infection Control,” which was scheduled to be attended by a number of representatives of Arab countries in the field of infection control, but the events in Gaza prevented their attendance.


Fathi noted that the Arab League for Infection Control will be an important platform for exchanging information and learning about developments related to the field of infection control, especially since there is disparity in health systems in Arab countries, adding, “It is very important that we have a database specific to the Association, other than the data of global links.”


The annual conference of the Egyptian Society for Infection Control, over two days, discusses everything that is important and new in the field of infection prevention and control at various levels of health care.


Among the important issues and topics discussed by the conference: Integration between all relevant disciplines such as clinical governance, risk management, and health care quality to achieve patient safety and provide safe health care.


The conference also addresses; Skills and standards for infection prevention and control, infection surveillance, data analysis and presentation, challenges of infectious diseases and antibiotic resistance, and biorisk management.


Professor Dr. Osama Raslan said that the conference this year is the result of cooperation between the Egyptian Society for Infection Control and a number of local and international institutions, including the Egypt office of the World Health Organization, the Egyptian Ministry of Health, the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control, the General Authority for Health Care, and the Arab Institute. Yesterday, the activities of the first day of the conference witnessed the honoring of a number of distinguished graduates of the “Professional Diploma in Infection Control,” which is awarded by the Arab Institute for Sustainable Professional Development in cooperation with the Association, and who had distinguished achievements at the local and regional levels in the field of infection prevention and control.
